About Netball Explained
What Netball Explained is, who it's for, who writes it, and how its plain-English guides to netball rules, positions and skills are researched.
Netball Explained is a reference site for anyone who wants to understand netball more clearly: new players, parents whose children have just started playing, junior and recreational players, coaches, umpires and new fans.
What we're trying to do
Most netball content online is either official rulebook language, written for people who already play, or short news coverage of results. We wanted a third option: a plain-English handbook that explains how the game actually works — one topic at a time, with original diagrams, and links between related rules, positions, skills, drills and tactics.
Our editorial principle
World Netball defines the rules; this site explains them. We don't reproduce official rule text unnecessarily, and every rules-sensitive page states which edition of the rules it was checked against and when. See our rules policy for details.
Who writes this
Netball Explained is by Claire McDonald, an independent web developer in Scotland with an interest in sports — and in making netball easier to understand. Claire does not claim formal coaching, umpiring or medical qualifications. Information reflects the best available knowledge at the time of writing and is researched against official and other authoritative sources where available. Rules-sensitive pages identify the edition checked and link to the governing source; use that source for current or jurisdiction-specific decisions.
Netball Explained is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by World Netball or any national netball association.
