Sources
The primary sources Netball Explained relies on for rules, history and competition content.
We try to base factual claims on primary and authoritative secondary sources rather than repeating simplified or second-hand accounts. This page lists the main sources we draw on across the site.
Rules
- World Netball — the official Rules of Netball. See our rules policy for how we track editions.
- National and regional netball associations, for jurisdiction-specific and junior format rules.
History and development of the game
- World Netball and national federation histories.
- Contemporary newspaper and archival records for early development claims, used in preference to repeating popular but unverified origin stories.
- Academic and museum sources on the history of women's sport where relevant.
Competitions
- Official competition organisers (for example World Netball, national leagues) for format, structure and history. We keep this separate from any live scores or current-season detail, which is out of scope for this site.
Individual article sourcing
Longer or rules-sensitive articles may cite specific sources inline. Where a claim is historical, contested or not obvious from the official rules, we aim to say where it comes from rather than stating it as flat fact.
