ANZ Premiership
The ANZ Premiership explained: New Zealand's top domestic netball league, its format, and how it developed from the earlier trans-Tasman ANZ Championship.
The ANZ Premiership is New Zealand's top domestic netball competition, home to the country's leading clubs and a major pathway into the national team, the Silver Ferns.
Format
The league features a fixed number of professional clubs based across New Zealand, competing through a regular season followed by finals to decide the premiership.
History
The ANZ Premiership was established in 2017, replacing New Zealand's participation in the earlier trans-Tasman ANZ Championship, a competition that had combined clubs from both Australia and New Zealand. When that combined league split, Australia launched its own domestic competition — see Suncorp Super Netball — while New Zealand established the ANZ Premiership as its standalone top domestic league.
Where it sits in the sport
The ANZ Premiership sits above regional competitions in New Zealand's domestic structure and is the main pathway for players moving toward full international selection — see history of netball for more on how domestic competitions developed across major netball nations.
Where this page stops
This page covers the league's durable format and history, not current-season fixtures, standings or results — check Netball New Zealand's official site for that.
