Australia Diamonds
Australia's national netball team, the Diamonds: history, competitions, and their standing as one of netball's most successful nations.
The Diamonds are the Australia national netball team, and one of the most successful nations in the sport's history — Australia won the very first Netball World Cup in 1963. See history of the Netball World Cup for that early history.
Competitions
Australia compete in the Netball World Cup and Commonwealth Games netball tournaments. Domestically, the Diamonds' players are drawn largely from Suncorp Super Netball, widely regarded as one of the world's strongest domestic netball leagues.
Standing in world netball
Since the sport's first international tournament, Australia has been one of netball's dominant nations, with a long-standing rivalry against New Zealand recognised as one of the sport's biggest fixtures. The depth of domestic competition in Australia is often cited as a key factor behind the Diamonds' sustained international strength.
